So what is for supper?
I took several things out of my freezer and pantry and attempted my first pantry meal:
Venison Pot Pie
2 Cans of Sliced Potatoes
1 Can of Rotel
1 Can of Corn
1 Can of Mushrooms
1 Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 Cup of Peas
1 Packet of Au Jus Gravy
1 Large Onion
1 Pillsbury Crust
1lb Ground Venison (hubby is a deer hunter *sorry folks*)
2 cups of broth (used frozen chicken broth from the last time I boiled chicken *seperated and froze*
Brown ground meat with sliced onion. Last 5 min. of browning I threw in the potatoes, rotel, and 1/2 of the Gravy pack. In a mixing bowl I mixed in all of the other ingredients which makes the gravy. Spray a casserole dish with cooking spray. Place ground meat/potatoes into casserole and gently mix in “gravy” . Place pie crust ontop of mixture and cook at 350F until the crust turn golden brown.

If you’re anything like me, even on months that you practice menu planning, you end up with some extra food in your pantry. Maybe you were tired one night and whipped up something easy like breakfast for dinner, instead of roasting a chicken.
Or perhaps you’re a bargain shopper. When you see diced tomatoes at a really good price, you stock up. The same with anything else.
Regardless of how you shop, at one time or another, you will likely find that you have a little of this and a little of that in your pantry, and you need a way to use it.
So… I have decided to do a pantry challenge. My pantry is starting to get a little full, and I am going to challenge myself to make meals strictly from my pantry for a week !!
I am going to allow myself to buy fresh milk and produce, but everything else needs to come out of the pantry or freezer. There are two benefits to doing this pantry challenge:
First, you save money. It’s nice to have a week every once in a while where you know your grocery bill will be minimal.
Second, it ensures that you aren’t wasting food. Food that is wasted is money that is wasted. It doesn’t matter how good a sale is. If you don’t use the item, it’s money wasted. By doing a pantry challenge you can make sure you’re using your food before it goes bad. Your pantry stock is continually rotated, and you aren’t wasting your food and money.
So…. anyone want to the accept the challege? I want to hear some feedback !! Everyone break out the old recipes or use the good ole internet and share those pantry friendly recipes.
